:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from N. Roberts -- Riveting, Insightful, Thought Provoking & Educational : I can honestly say that once I picked this up, I couldn't put it down. A well written, insightful book that provided a true understanding of the events that changed this families life forever. Written from the viewpoint of Cherry Groce's son this book transports you back and forth through time and educates you on the political and social climate at the time of this tragedy; as well as highlighting the challenges still faced over 30 years later. Growing up I knew of the shooting of Cherry Groce and of the Brixton riots, but none of the actual details. Lee Lawrence's account of his experience witnessing the shooting of his mother; as well as the impact it had on him and his family is truly heartbreaking. His quest for justice for his Mother and his family is a real page turner and you can't help rooting for him. This is a story about Policing errors, cultural bias and preconceptions that should be read by all. His journey and growth brought tears to my eyes at times and his candid account of being a carer from a young age was enlightening. I can't recommend this book enough and this is a must read for not only every Black Briton, but for anyone that wants a greater understanding of the challenges the black community has faced and still faces. Thank you Lee Lawrence for your tenacity and for sharing your story with us. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 30, 2020 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Angela Welham -- Heartbreaking, devastating and uplifting : I started this book on Saturday morning and finished Saturday evening. I could not put it down. The structure, moving between the time before Lee’s mother’s death and after, was very compelling. The description of the night of his mother’s shooting by the police was absolutely devastating and I cried several times throughout the book. It was written with honesty, integrity and authenticity. Lee Lawrence was a true advocate for his mother and his tenacity was inspiring. I also found it extremely educational regarding racism generally and completely eye opening. What his family had to endure should never happen to anyone, and the fact that he had to fight simply for recognition, acknowledgement and apologies was so humbling. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. This should be a staple part of any education in helping to dismantle racism. I loved it. Every word. As difficult as it was to read In parts ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 20, 2020 )

- 4.0 out of 5 stars from MatthewThomas -- Police incompetence and Ineptitude : I read this book in two days. It clearly highlights the problem of policing in the i.e. incompetence, ineptitude and sheer laziness. Glad this man fought and won against the Metropolitan police farce. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from CJ1980 -- An uplifting tale of a quest for answers : I purchased Lee Lawrence's book initially thinking the shooting of his mother Cherry Groce was what triggered the Broadwater Farm riots in 1985 which lead to the murder PC Keith Blakelock.
